Counseling and Consultation Services to hold addiction-recovery meetings

By Northern Star Staff

Counseling and Consultation Services will offer SMART Recovery meetings to NIU students looking for new ways to cope with addictive behaviors.

Meetings will be held on noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays in the Campus Life Building, Room 200.

Smart Recovery Illinois is a secular program designed to support individuals considering abstinence from addictive behaviors.

“I think that there are students and people here that identify with having difficulty with addictive behavior, and I think it’s important for people to have a space to be able to process that,” said Giselle Navarro, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and initiator of the SMART Recovery program.

Anyone with questions regarding SMART Recovery can contact Navarro at 815-753-1206.
