Volleyball on the road for first away match of the season

DeKALB — The volleyball team looks to capitalize on the momentum gained from winning two of three matches in the NIU Invitational.

NIU defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University and University of California-Riverside to start the season at home.

After a successful opening weekend, NIU takes to the road for their next match against the Chicago State University Cougars. Last season, the Cougars came to DeKalb and defeated the Huskies in four sets, 3-1.

Chicago State currently holds a 1-3 record after losing three straight matches in the Colorado State University Tournament. Though they lost all three matches, the Cougars played well against the University of Oklahoma, taking the match to five sets.

NIU’s Head Coach Ray Gooden said he is looking forward to seeing how the newcomers will respond on the road.

“We’ve got a pretty young team. Chicago State is incredibly hungry to play us, and defend their home court.” Gooden said.

The Huskies face off against the Cougars Tuesday 6 p.m at the Dickens Athletic Center in Chicago.
