This week in NIU athletics

DeKALB — Women’s soccer kicked off the first week of athletics this season when the Huskies fell 1-3 to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday.

Football

This week is headlined by football’s season and home opener. Head Coach Thomas Hammock will be making his first appearance as the leader of the pack, kicking off the Hammock Era at NIU. Kick off will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Huskie Stadium

Volleyball

Volleyball is set to open its season by hosting the NIU Invitational. The Huskies will face Fairleigh Dickinson University, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and University of California-Riverside. The Huskies will open the invitational against Fairleigh Dickinson noon Friday before taking on SIUE 7 p.m. NIU will close out the invitational against UC-Riverside 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Cross Country

Cross country will travel to Western Illinois University to participate in the Western Illinois University Early Bird Meet. The meet is set for 5 p.m. Friday in Macomb, Illinois.

Men’s soccer

Men’s soccer will kick-off its season against DePaul University before visiting Loyola University-Chicago. The DePaul match starts at 4 p.m. Friday and the Loyola game is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, both will be played in Chicago.

Women’s soccer

Women’s soccer will host the University of Louisiana-Lafayette for their first home match of the season. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. Friday at NIU Soccer Complex.
