Week two of Spanish La Liga concludes with high-scoring game

DeKALB — Week two of La Liga play wrapped with a seven-goal galore match between F.C. Barcelona and Real Betis on Sunday at Barcelona’s Camp Nou.

In Madrid, Real Madrid C.F. was unable to carry its week one victory momentum into week two when it hosted Real Valladolid on Saturday. The match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu.

One goal was enough to separate Atletico Madrid from CD Leganes as the Rojiblancos took a 0-1 away win at the Butarque.

Barcelona vs. Betis

Real Betis took the lead 15 minutes into the match with a goal from forward Nabil Fekir who slot a left foot shot past Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Forward Loren Moron provided the assist with a slick through ball splitting the Barca backline.

Barcelona responded with five straight goals including two from forward Antoine Griezmann and one from forward Carles Perez. Both players scored their first goal as Blaugranas. Midfielder Sergi Roberto assisted three times, including twice to Griezmann.

Griezmann leveled for Barca before the half with a one-time diving volley past Beti’s goalkeeper Daniel Fernandez. Griezmann added a second goal at the 50-minute mark with a curling shot to the far left post.

Carles Perez scored the third goal with a left-foot shot tucked away to the bottom-left corner. He was assisted by defender Nelson Semedo who found Perez at the top of the 18-yard-box.

Sergi Roberto’s third assist came when he found defender Jordi Alba on an inside run into the box where Alba poked his shot past Fernandez.

Barca’s last goal came when Perez and Griezmann linked passes to find midfielder Arturo Vidal whose sliding shot grazed the right post and went in.

Betis added the last goal of the match when Moron recouped a loose ball in the middle of the field before turning around and caught ter Stegen off his line. Moron’s shot sailed 25 yards before finding the back of the net.

Real Madrid vs Valladolid

Forward Karim Benzema scored the lone goal at the 82-minute mark for the Galacticos. The forward was assisted by defender Raphael Varane who whipped his cross low and straight to Benzema.

Six minutes later Valladolid tied the match with a goal from forward Sergio Guardiola whose shot nutmegged Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Guardiola was assisted from a through ball by winger Oscar Plano.

Atletico vs Leganes

Rojiblancos winger Vitolo netted the only goal of the match at the 71-minute mark. The Spaniard was assisted by forward Joao Felix.

Vitolo received the ball with his body positioned toward the goal and slid his shot to the bottom-left corner past Leganes goalkeeper Juan Soriano.

Saturday

Sevilla FC defeated Granada CF 1-0 from a goal by midfielder Joan Jordan.

Forward Roger Marti scored a brace to lead Levante UD to a 2-1 victory over Villarreal CF.

CA Osasuna and SD Eibar leveled at nil through the final whistle.

Celta de Vigo scored 15 minutes into the game which was enough to shutout Valencia CF. Forward Gabriel Fernandez provided the goal for Celta.

Getafe CF and Athletic Bilbao split a point each in a 1-1 draw. Bilbao midfielder Raul Garcia opened the scoring six minutes in the match before forward Jaime Mata leveled six minutes later.

Sunday

Deportivo Alves and RCD Espanyol tied at zeros.

Real Sociedad took a trip to face RCD Mallorca. Sociedad downed the host in a 0-1 victory with a goal from midfielder Martin Odegaard.
