Whyte places in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships
June 11, 2019
Senior jumper Jehvania Whyte competed in the NCAA Championships on Saturday and finished within the top 20 in the triple jump.
Whyte posted a mark of 12.84 meters on her third jump, but was unable to advance into the top nine to the second round of the event.
Head Coach Connie Teaberry told NIU Athletics she was proud of Whyte and her leaps on Saturday evening.
“Unfortunately, we ended on a sour note,” Teaberry said. “Technique just wasn’t conducive to a big jump today and her competitors showed no mercy. Jehvania’s outdoor track and field career at NIU comes to an end and we are proud of the representation and notoriety Jehvania has brought to the program.”
Whyte finishes this season as the Mid-American Conference champion in the triple jump, both indoors and outdoors. Teaberry told NIU Athletics that the staff was essential to this season.
“Jehvania’s success, along with her teammates success, could not have been achieved without the program’s tremendous support staff,” said Teaberry. “Some pushing Jehvania, and the team, to reach their full potential and others making her and the program’s day-to-day task smooth.”
Whyte will compete in the upcoming indoor season, beginning in December 2019.
