City offering fire hydrants as paint canvas in art program

By Northern Star Staff

The city is offering interested artists the opportunity to paint one of DeKalb’s fire hydrants as part of it’s Paint-A-Plug program, according to a press release.

Started in 2018 by the Citizen’s Community Enhancement Commission, the program allows individuals, groups or organizations to adopt a fire-hydrant.

The program is open to residents and non-residents of the city. The DeKalb Public Library, Egyptian Theatre, NIU and local citizens are current participants.

Hydrant adoption is free, but artists must provide their own painting materials.

The application is available on the city’s website.
