Sponsored by the DeKalb Public Library in conjunction with the DeKalb Park District, Stone Soup Shakespeare is bringing a comedic classic outdoors for a night of live theatre. The group’s production of Twelfth Night will be performed 6 p.m. May 31 in Huntley Park, at the corner of 2nd and Garden St.

Twelfth Night follows a Viola, a woman who, after being seperated from her brother during a shipwreck, poses as him to get by on the island of Ilyria. Mistaken identity, love triangles and hilarity ensue in this classic comedy.

This show is a part of the group’s “Fame” tour. In Stone Soup’s Shakespeare’s re-imagining of Twelfth Night, the music of David Bowie is used to breathe contemporary life into the script originally performed in 1602.

“[Stone Soup Shakespeare’s] aim is to first try to approach Shakespeare’s writings as if they were new scripts, looking at them wish fresh eyes and how they impact today’s audience,” according to the DeKalb Public Library website.

Formed in 2010, the group travels the Midwest and brings re-imaginings of Shakespeare’s classic stories to different communities.

The show is free and open to the public, and a donation box will be available for guests to make contributions towards the group’s mission to bring live, free theatre to communities. Patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket and folding chairs to make themselves comfortable while enjoying the show.
