Max Scharping selected 55th overall to the Houston Texans

DeKALB — A former NIU Huskie will be relocating to the lone-star state. Friday with a second-round pick, 55th overall, the Houston Texans selected offensive tackle Max Scharping.
Scharping said to NIU Athletics he was excited to be selected and is ready to get his NFL career underway.
“It was an amazing feeling getting that phone call,” Scharping said. “I can’t wait to be a Texan. It’s an unbelievable feeling, and I can’t wait to get down to Houston.”
With the pick Scharping became the 38th NIU player to be selected in the history of the NFL draft and the first since wide receiver Kenny Golladay in 2017.
Scharping started every game of his career during his time in DeKalb. He was named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy for his accomplishments on the field as well as in the classroom.
He was a three-time first team All Mid-American Conference member and an honorable mention All-American by College Football News.
Scharping gained experience at multiple positions of the offensive line including right tackle, right guard and left tackle.
