Taking its name from the famous theater, “Live at the Apollo” is a multifaceted entertainment show containing multiple acts. The show will take place at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center.

Coming 7 p.m. Thursday to the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center is The Black Male Initiative’s “Live at the Apollo.”

The multifaceted event will display contestants fighting to win $300, with winners chosen by a panel of judges. Aaron Dunlap, a graduate assistant at who is a member of the Black Male Initiative, said the event will feature singers, dancers, jugglers and magicians.

Dunlap said he hopes the audience receives a show of epic proportions.

“We strive to always bring a special performance that will get the audience out of their seats,” Dunlap said.

The contestants vying for the prize were selected after a tryout process.

With a diverse range of entertainment acts, Dunlop said the audience will be surprised by the everchanging lineup.  Tickets will cost $5 for students and $7 for guests. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. The show is expected to last four hours, so Dunlap said there ought to be no shortage of entertainment.

“The overall message, I would say, is that this event brings people together,” Dunlap said. “[Come] together to watch the showcases of NIU students in an Apollo style environment.”
