Highest Grossing Films of the Weekend: March 15-17

The box office has once again been dominated by superheroes with Marvel’s release of “Captain Marvel.”

Once again, “Captain Marvel” led the domestic box office and surpassed China’s “The Wandering Earth” by $100 million to become the highest grossing film of 2019 worldwide. Despite leading the box office for two weekends, “Captain Marvel” faced a little competition from smaller budget films in America.

1. “Captain Marvel”- $67,988,130

While not as strong as it’s opening weekend, “Captain Marvel’s” haul of $67 million shows how much people love this film. With a Certified Fresh Rating of 79 percent, the film is one of Marvel’s lesser reviewed films. This doesn’t really hurt the film too much as it shares the stage with films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

2. “Wonder Park”- $15,853,646

“Wonder Park” has been slammed by many critics with a 30 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences haven’t been too fond either with an audience rating of 44 percent. Despite this, the film has been described as having a colorful atmosphere and fun animation.

3. “Five Feet Apart”- $13,190,286

The teen drama “Five Feet Apart” combined two fantastic leads with a heartbreaking premise. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 53 percent, some have ripped on the films cliches but praised the leading performance of Haley Lu Richardson.
