By Amy Caboor

Good morning, hope you’re enjoy your third official snow day in three weeks! Due to the effects of the polar vortex, parts of the Midwest are experiencing the coldest temperatures in two decades, according to The Weather Channel.

Today will reach the double digits, but it’s with a high of -19 degrees and a low of -30 degrees. Winds will be gusting between 15 and 25 mph, blowing snow across the roads.

The winds not only make driving dangerous but walking too. Due to the extremely cold weather, there is a serious risk of frostbite. Exposed skin could become frostbitten in as little as five minutes, according to The Weather Channel.

Frostbite is a stinging, pins and needles feeling after exposure to cold, followed by numb skin turning pale and hard. If you think you might have frostbite, run the exposed area under warm water, according to Mayo Clinic.

Stay warm today, and more importantly, stay safe!
