‘Frozen II’ trailer stirs excitement

Disney released a teaser trailer for their new animated film “Frozen 2” Wednesday, and it seems fans will finally be getting an explanation for Elsa’s magical abilities in the long-awaited sequel to the internationally popular 2013 film “Frozen.”

The trailer opens with Queen Elsa, voiced by Idina Menzel, attempting to control her powers over winter by freezing a wild ocean and leads the audience through an epic adventure with her sister Princess Anna, Anna’s boyfriend Kristoff and the lovable snowman Olaf, voiced by Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad.

Comparing the new film’s trailer with that of its forerunner, the newest focuses more on the atmosphere of each scene to tell the story rather than simple narration, which was the method the first film’s teaser used. At a brief glance, there also seems to be new characters added to the plot, although no antagonist has been identified and the cast list is short.

From the fleeting glimpse the audience was given, it can be assumed Elsa will meet someone with similar powers and will finally, along with the viewers, gain some clarification about how she inherited them in the first place.

The first movie is well-known for its musical score and went on to win two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, each for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature Film in 2014. “Frozen” broke box office records grossing over $400 million nationwide and $1 billion worldwide to become the highest grossing animated film of all time. It can be assumed from its predecessor’s achievements and immense popularity that “Frozen 2” will ultimately surpass it, as animation technology has improved and Disney has had six years to work on the details of this new film.

Overall, the teaser for “Frozen 2” makes the film seem more epic, adventurous and exciting than the previous film and could end up providing a more developed plot than the first, which felt as if it was designed to appeal more to children rather than the wide age range of Disney fans.

“Frozen 2” will be released in theaters Nov. 22.
