Challenging the Stigma: NIU Art Exhibition

By Amy Caboor

On the first floor of the Founder’s Library, an exhibition titled Challenging the Stigma: Mental Health and Wellness in College NIU will display student artwork expressing the subject and what it means to them.

The exhibition is curated by photographers, writer, and filmmaker Tara Wray. She is a regular contributor to Vice, BUST Magazine, and is photo editor of the literary journal Hobart. Wray curates different projects to help people come together and creatively share their stories, more commonly revolving around mental illness.

In this exhibition, NIU students did as the title presented; they challenged the stigma and used their artwork to express it as such. With their pieces, viewers have insight on how mental health is treated and dealt with in a college setting.

The opening reception is on Thursday, at 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will continued to be displayed throughout February.
