Galentine’s Day

By Sarah LaLond

Galentine’s Day proves that nothing can stop Leslie Knope’s love for her friends, not even a holiday originally meant for couples. Made popular by Amy Poehler’s character on “Parks and Recreation”, Galentine’s Day is a February celebration of the special gals in your life.

It seems that within the last decade, there’s been an increase in celebrating holidays with friends. During holiday season, friends gather to celebrate Friendsgiving along with Thanksgiving, and Friendsmas along with Christmas.

With families living farther away and possible tensions making holidays awkward, getting together with friends to celebrate holidays just makes sense.

To celebrate Galentine’s Day, start comparing schedules now to pick at date that works for everyone. You could follow the example of Leslie Knope by meeting for brunch, or deciding to host a party at someone’s apartment.

To keep with the spirit of the holiday, exchange cheesy Valentine’s Day cards and munch on candy. Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to appreciate the people who make your life better, so don’t limit yourself to just appreciating your significant other.
