Football Head Coach Thomas Hammock’s contract will keep him at NIU through January 2024, making a base salary of $500,000 per year.

The contract, acquired by the Northern Star through a Freedom of Information Act request, also awards $100,000 in donor engagement compensation based on evaluations from the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Hammock signed on to becoming the 23rd Head Coach of NIU Football on Jan. 17 and was introduced at a press conference on Jan. 18.

NIU Athletics announced Thursday Hammock brought on two defensive assistants, Robert Wimberly and Jordan Gigli, along with the hiring of offensive coordinator Eric Eidsness.

Wimberly, who coached with Hammock at Wisconsin in 2003, has spent the last seven seasons as defensive coordinator at Liberty University.

Gigli, a high school teammate of Hammock’s in Fort Wayne, has spent the last five season as a defensive line coach at the University of North Dakota.
