J.B. Pritzker elected Governor in midterm elections

By Northern Star Staff

Democrat J.B. Pritzker has defeated incumbent Republican Bruce Rauner in the most expensive governor’s race in American history.

Pritzker spent $176 million on the election, while Rauner spent $79 million; both numbers beat the previous record for most spent on an election, set by Rauner in 2014.

Advertisements from both candidates peppered the major networks, along with Pritzker monopolizing the Hulu and Youtube ad-space.

Pritzker has cast himself as a pro-education spending progressive focused on retaining Illinois’ youth population and reforming the state’s social services. He also wants to expand consumer protections and foster a more inviting small-business environment for minorities and women.
