Heavy traffic expected for NIU Move-In Day

By Northern Star staff

Traffic patterns will temporarily be affected by NIU Move-In Day to offset the heavily anticipated vehicle flow.

Move-in day for the 2018-2019 academic year will be taking place Friday through Sunday. Over 2,600 students will be moving into campus housing this weekend, according to an Aug. 21 NIU Institutional Communications news release.

University officials will be diverting traffic westward under the same Move-In Day plan utilized since 2003. Traffic entering DeKalb from I-88 onto Annie Glidden Road will be directed to Fairview Road for two miles to Nelson Road, then two miles north to Route 38 and a mile east to campus.

Police officers will be directing traffic and university officials have over 100 signs going up to keep drivers on course, according to the press release.

Roads on the NIU west campus will be closed to traffic other than Move-In Day traffic from 2 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. This area is bordered by the Convocation Center on the west, Annie Glidden Road on the east, Route 38 on the south and Grant Drive on the north, according to the news release.

All parking lots will be closed except for Lot C3 north of the Convocation Center.
