NIU student earns scholarship

By Illinois State Society

The Illinois State Society recently awarded Teeanna Brisco a scholarship for her summer internship in the Washington, D.C. office of Representative Robin Kelly. Teeanna Brisco is a native of Madison, Wisconsin currently studying at Northern Illinois University.

Illinois State Society Intern Scholarships assist students pursuing public service in the offices of Illinois’ Congressional delegation by defraying the cost of interning in Washington, D.C. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic record, recommendations from Members of Congress and senior Congressional staff, extra-curricular activities, personal statements, and financial need.

Ms. Brisco was one of 21 students honored at an Illinois State Society reception July 18 at which Members of Congress and staff celebrated the accomplishments and commitment to public service. See below for photos from this event.

“I was honored to present Teeanna Brisco with this scholarship on behalf of the Illinois State Society,” said former Congressman and Illinois State Society President Jerry Weller. “We need more talented young people to pursue careers in public service, and we are proud to play a role in making that possible for students from across the Land of Lincoln.”
