Two more Huskies request release

By Northern Star Staff

Sophomore guard Justin Thomas and redshirt freshman guard Marlo Brown received their release from the men’s basketball team, according to Director of Communications Jeremy Reid.

As a freshman, Thomas appeared in 32 games for the Huskies and made 17 starts. He appeared in every game for NIU this past season and shot just under 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from the 3-point line.

Brown was redshirted his freshman season.

Thomas said in a Friday Facebook post that he is appreciative for everything NIU did for him.

“I would like to thank coach [Montgomery] and the staff for the opportunity they gave me these past two years,” Thomas said. “After talking to my parents, I feel it is in by best interest to transfer from NIU and seek other schools to further my education [and] basketball career.”

Thomas and Brown are the second and third players who have requested release from the team since the season ended.
