The women’s tennis team took its third straight loss in two weeks as they lost Monday to University of Illinois-Chicago.

The Huskies, who have struggled in the doubles competition, weren’t able to take the doubles point for a third straight week.

Georgie Sanders and Lejla Colic of the Flames were too much for freshman Maria Potsi and senior Evelyn Youel as they were shutout 6-0.

Matches No. 1 and 2 of the doubles ended with the same score of 6-2. The Flames’ Melika LeBlanc and Rachel Le Comber knocked off senior Abigail Dekkinga and sophomore Brodie Walker in match No. 1.

The Huskies’ freshman duo of Thisuri Molligoda and Lara Slisko weren’t able to halt the sweep in match No. 2 against Viktoria Seifert and Stefana Vasic.

“Our doubles play needs to get better moving forward, said NIU head coach Tanya Mahefu, according to NIU Media Services. “We will keep working on it in practice.”

The singles competition displayed many close matches and sets.

Match No. 1 of singles could’ve went either way, but it was the Flames’ Sanders getting the win over Molligoda 6-4, 6-3.

Colic was too much for Dekkinga. She was only able to put one point up in the first set as Colic took match No. 2 6-1, 6-3.

Potsi gave the Huskies their first point in three games with the win over Leblanc 7-6, 6-1 in match No. 3

Guevremont and Youel put up a nice match No. 4 with both sets going into advantage, however the point went to the Flames.

Match No. 5 showed an advantage set between Le Comber and Walker, but Walker couldn’t finish as she dropped both sets 7-5, 6-1

Slisko was able to put up points in match No. 6, but not enough against Seifert and she lost 6-3, 6-2.

The women’s tennis team will be back on the court 2 p.m. Tuesday as they travel to Orlando to take on Southern Mississippi.
