UPDATE

The DeKalb Police Department has arrested an individual believed to have committed the armed robbery Thursday on the 900 block of W. Hillcrest Drive.

The department’s K9 units were able to track the suspect, Juvan Webster, 20, of Hazel Crest, from Hillcrest Drive to his apartment building on Edgebrook Drive. Police then used “investigative techniques” to determine the suspect’s residence within the building, according to a March 2 DeKalb Police Department press release.

Webster has been charged with armed robbery, possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a firearm with a FOID and possession of firearm ammunition with a FOID.

Webster had contacted the victim through OfferUp, a resale application, about a cell phone. Police officials believe Webster’s arrest may have stopped further robberies from occurring because Webster was using the resale app to buy and sell items, according to the press release.

The victim’s cell phone was found in Webster’s apartment, as well as the loaded handgun used during the robbery.

Webster is currently awaiting a bond hearing at the DeKalb County Jail.
