The Huskies could not pull of the win Sunday as it struggled against the Miami University RedHawks

The first doubles match of the day was played by freshman Thisuri Molligoda and senior Abigail Dekkinga at the No. 1.

They couldn’t get the win again this week, falling to Nelli Ponomareva and Anastasia Vasiukhina, 6-2.

At the No. 2, Milana Lysova and Priyana Kalita were in the lead against Freshmen Lara Slisko and Maria Potsi, however the match did not finish and the score conceded.

Emily Struble and Melati Devi were too much for senior Evelyn Youel and sophomore Brodie Walker at the No. 3 as they sealed the doubles point for the RedHawks.

It was Molligoda and Ponomareva in match No.1 of singles. The first set was put into advantage, but it was Ponomareva closing out the win 7-5, 6-4.

Potsi also put her set in match No. 2 into advantage butfell to Lysova 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2.

In match No. 3, Dekkinga struggled by only scoring four points total against Struble, falling 6-1, 6-3.

Kalita was too much for Youel as she scored the fifth points for the RedHawks in match No. 4

Match No. 5 was the light for the Huskies as Walker got the first point against Vasiukhina for NIU and her second win of the weekend.

Slisko pushed for her second extra set of the weekend in a hot-and-cold game against Babunski in the final match of afternoon, but fell 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.

“We Had Chances to take control of the match as a whole,” said Head Coach Tanya Mahefu. “I think the girls played well. Even though the score doesn’t reflect it, I think it was a really competitive match today.”

The Huskies will play again 12 p.m. Friday as they will take on Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
