Owen Hamilton, men’s basketball freshman center, will not be a part of the team next season after requesting a release from the basketball program, according to a Friday NIU Athletics press release.

“Owen has made the decision to transfer and continue his playing career closer to home, and we have given him his release,” said head coach Mark Montgomery, according to NIU Media Services. “We appreciate Owen’s contributions this season and wish him well.”

Director of Communications Jeremy Reid said Hamilton has not committed to any other basketball program at this point.

Hamilton played in 27 games as a freshman this season and averaged 1.9 points and 1.3 rebounds a game.
