Senior Ashley Potts led the Huskies to another milestone as they broke the 195.00 barrier at the Gymquarters Invitational meet Friday in St. Charles, Missouri.

NIU’s 195.025 was enough to overwhelm the Lindenwood University Lions who scored 193.600. Despite reaching the 195.00 plateau, the Huskies were outscored by the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, who posted a 195.725 at the meet. The break-even outing pushed the team’s record to 5-9 on the season.

Head Coach Sam Morreale said he liked with the way the team dealt with adversity through the meet.

“We took a couple of misses along the way, but didn’t have to count any, which is huge,” Morreale said. “I was impressed with the way we kept battling through the meet. We’re pretty happy with our performance, especially after a double weekend last week.”

The Huskies took top score on the floor exercise as they posted a 48.900. Junior Anna Martucci anchored the team with a 9.850. Sophomore Amanda Bartemio and senior Katherine Prentice added key performances as they both scored a 9.800.

Potts led the team on uneven bars, matching a career-highof 9.900 for the third time. NIU scored 48.825 on the bars, its second best event of the day.

The Huskies had a trio of outstanding performances from Prentice, Potts and sophomore Allison Richardson on the balance beam. All three scored higher than 9.800, with Prentice’s 9.875 being the best among them and matching her career-high. Collectively, the beam rotation scored a 48.800.

“The seniors are really stepping up when it’s their turn to shine,” Morreale said, according to NIU Media Services. “It speaks to their preparation. This team wants to do well, and they want to set records.”

The Huskies faltered a bit on vault, finishing with a 48.500, their lowest event score to close out the meet. Potts, Bartemio and sophomore Cinny Lamberti still had nice vaults posting scores of 9.775.

Potts finished with an all-around score of 39.175, cementing herself as the highest scorer of the meet. Potts earned the distinction with a mere 0.025 over a competitor from Minnesota.

“I truly feel like we’re a 196.00 team,” Morreale said.

NIU will return home 2 p.m. Sunday to take on the Ball State Cardinals at Victor E. Court in the Convocation Center.
