Valentine’s recipe to impress
February 5, 2018
This Valentine’s Day, students can ditch the usual box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers to try this palatable, yet stylish, gift. Here is a trendy, millennial, pink-inspired macaroon recipe, perfect for any sweet tooth.
Supplies:
• 3 large eggs
• 2 cups of powdered sugar
• 1 cup gluten-free almond flour
• ¼ cup of superfine sugar
• ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
• 3 ½ tablespoons of milk
• 7 tablespoons of butter
• Red food dye
• Piping bag
Steps:
1. Put powdered sugar and almond flour into a sifter.
2. Put powdered sugar and almond mixture in a bowl. The mixture should be light and powdery.
3. Separate three egg whites into a bowl and mix egg whites in a mixer until they are thick and fluffy.
4. While the egg whites are mixing, pour cream of tartar in and slowly add in sugar.
5. Turn off the mixer and add two drops of red food dye to create an aesthetically pleasing pink effect.
6. Combine almond flour mixture with egg white mixture. Rather than stirring mixtures together, be sure to move in a folding motion with a spoon.
7. Pour mixture into a piping bag and drop dots of batter onto a baking sheet.
8. Before putting the macaroons in the oven, wait 30 minutes, and allow batter to harden on the baking sheet.
9. Preheat oven to 300 degrees and allow macaroons to bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
10. While macaroons are in the oven, begin making the filling. Use seven tablespoons of butter and mash into a bowl.
11. In another bowl, whisk two egg yolks with ¼ cup of sugar and 3 ½ tablespoons of milk.
12. Put mixture from step 11 on stove with low heat and stir until it reaches a pudding-like consistency.
13. Add the pudding mixture from step 12 with the butter mixture from step 10.
14. Add one teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir contents in bowl.
15. Once done and cooled, add filling between the top and bottom of the macaroon pieces to create a mini hamburger and enjoy this treat.
