An undefeated showing Sunday against the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars concluded a 2-0 weekend getaway for the women’s tennis team.

The Huskies, who are 2-3 on the year, were able to get the doubles point and win all singles matches to beat the Cougars 7-0.

“It was a great team effort against a team that beat us last year,” said Head Coach Tanya Mahefu, according to NIU Media Services. “Overall, it was a good weekend for the team.”

At No. 1, freshman Thisuri Molligoda and senior Evelyn Youel defeated Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper 6-3.

Freshmen Maria Potsi and Lara Slisko notched a 6-3 win at No. 2 against Raillane Kamdem and Katherine Lahue of the Cougars.

In the final match of the doubles competition, the Cougars weren’t able to get a win, as senior Abigail Dekkinga and sophomore Brodie Walker of NIU won by default.

The Huskies had similar luck in singles matches, sweeping the Cougars 6-0.

Playing at No. 1, Molligoda improved her record to 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Tupper.

Potsi brought her spring season record to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Link at No. 2.

At No. 3, Slisko got her first singles win as a Huskie against Kamdem 6-2, 6-4.

In matches No. 4 and 5 Dekkinga and Yuel dominated and shut out their opponents, winning both sets 6-0.

The team will look to make it three consecutive wins, as it will be back on the court 1 p.m. Saturday against the Illinois State University Redbirds in Normal, Illinois.
