Remember a few years ago when everyone was happy with their eyebrows just the way they were? Yeah, neither do I. 2017 was the year of crazy brow trends, and it looks like they’re here to stay for 2018.

The “not-so-new” new eyebrow trend is called “barbed wire eyebrows.” They were first seen last year during the brow craze we all thought had ended, but here we are now talking about the bladed, not-so-attractive look again. 

“Barbed wire” describes how the hairs are styled into spikes in alternating upward and downward points, resembling a barbed wire fence. Makeup artist Athena Paginton is to thank for this trend, as she pioneered the look on her Instagram in March 2017.

I was curious as to what college kids would think about this strange, yet popular eyebrow trend. Are people okay with this weird trend, or do they find it appalling?

“I think this eyebrow trend is really cool. I think it’s nice for people to be creative and express themselves even if it’s just on their eyebrows,” said freshman business major Elizabeth Woywod.

However, not everyone had the same opinion. “I think it’s utterly ridiculous, and I have never understood the weird eyebrow trends,” said freshman undecided major Carson Kemper.

It’s clear people are split on their opinions, which is expected with a trend so out of the box. Maybe one day these crazy brow trends will be popular and everyone will join in on the fun, but I, on the other hand, am waiting for the day they are laid to rest.
