DeKALB — DeKalb Stands, a women’s rights and civil liberties advocacy group, will lead a panel discussion about the Affordable Care Act and its effects on DeKalb County.

The panel discussion will feature a team of local healthcare leaders.
The forum will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the DeKalb County Community Outreach Building, 2500 Annie Glidden Road, in the Five Seasons Learning Center.

Some of the Affordable Care Act contents will be discussed by Lisa Gonzalez, DeKalb County Health Department public health administrator, Meghan Cook, DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board member and Kevin Poorten, Northwestern Medicine West Region president.

Jane Lux, DeKalb County Public Health Department’s former public health administrator will introduce the speakers and guide discussion.

The discussion aims to “gain an understanding of the history and current status of the landmark health care bill and its impact within DeKalb County,” according to a Jan. 9 DeKalb Stands press release.

Topics discussed will include health insurance coverage expansion, the health insurance marketplace and current issues of mental health care.
