DeKALB — Alexandra Hoyle, 21, of DeKalb, has been arrested in connection to the murder of 2-year-old Khalil Body.

Employees at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Drive, alerted the DeKalb Police Department Nov. 10 about suspicious circumstances concerning a child who arrived at the facility with severe brain injuries, according to a Nov. 15 DeKalb Police Department press release.

The injury was reported to have occurred at the 800 block of Ridge Drive when Hoyle, girlfriend to the victim’s father, allegedly slammed the child’s head into a hardwood floor.

“The tragic loss of a 2-year-old child at the hands of this offender is unthinkable,” said DeKalb Police Chief Gene Lowery in the release. “On behalf of the DeKalb Police Department, we offer our sincere condolences, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and those that survive him.”

Hoyle was able to post a $10,000 bail Tuesday for a charge of aggravated battery to a child before the child died. After the child’s death, the charge was upgraded to two counts of first degree murder. She is currently being held on a $750,000 bond, according to court documents.

Margaret Lyons, friend of the victim’s grandmother, started a GoFundMe page Wednesday to help the family cover medical and funeral expenses; $4,786 of the $10,000 goal has been donated at the time of this story’s publication.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 15 at the DeKalb County Courthouse, 133 W. State St. in Sycamore, Room 72.
