October 30, 2017
Finding the funny part in everyday situations can be a tough task, but Netflix has a bucketful of relatable comedy specials out to make light of those rough situations in life. With a wide variety of topics covering family, pets and hotel mishaps, every viewer is bound to find something to laugh about.
Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster
This ventriloquist has been making people laugh hysterically since he was a teenager, according to his biography on IMDb.
In his new special, “Relative Disaster,” Dunham travels to Ireland to talk politics, family and age gaps. Dunham uses his material to explain his real life experiences from getting remarried to having kids at a later age in life.
Dunham explains that he decided to trace back his genealogy which lead to him discovering his Irish blood and, in turn, the creation of a new character, Seamus.
An alcoholic Irish baby with a thick Irish accent, Seamus keeps the audience on the edge of their seat with wit and great comebacks to Dunham’s banter.
Providing a new twist to his routine of puppets, Seamus gives viewers a new personality to laugh about as he develops. Other timeless puppets of Dunham’s such as Walter and Peanut also make appearances as they remind viewers of their humor and unusual relationships.
With crude jokes covering everything from politics, family matters and his past divorce, this special will make the audience question their own family and sanity.
Brad Paisley’s Comedy Rodeo
This big country star takes over the stage in a way many fans never would have thought.
Brad Paisley puts on a show filled with comedic music and guest comedians Nate Bargatze, John Heffron, Jon Reep, Sarah Tiana and Mike E. Winfield. All the comedians, including Paisley, stayed in the same hotel during the filming of the special and use this to gradually poke fun at each other throughout the stand-up show.
Each comedian walks on stage with a smile to a tune written just for them. Paisley’s special has an edge with his musical abilities bringing something new to the table.
He jokes about his career and the friends he’s made along the way, such as famous country singer Reba McEntire. Leaving audience members laughing to the point of tears, Paisley goes out with a bang as he sings a song revealing a comedic surprise he left for McEntire.
Sarah Silverman: A Speck of Dust
Sarah Silverman was once known as one of the edgiest comedians of her time, constantly making jokes that landed her in hot water, but in her new special, she leaves the vulgar past behind.
The material in “A Speck of Dust” covers Silverman’s life with sisters, getting a new dog and laser hair removal as she brings a new perspective to these mundane things.
Silverman is more relaxed on stage than even before and glad to interact with the audience.
In the past, Silverman used her comedy to cover topics like racism, religion and sexism. These jokes became very taboo and stirred quite the response from the audience with a bit of vulgar language being thrown around.
While her new jokes still are a bit risqué and graphic, they resonate with a young adult audience because of the relatable material and her more than hilarious outlook on life.
This special is a prime example of Silverman’s ability to adapt and begin a new chapter of her joke cracking career for all to enjoy.
