The New Pumpkin Pie Blizzard

By Sara Rasmussen

Yes, it’s that time of year, when the leaves are falling and pumpkin flavors come bursting out of their secret hiding spot. Though the leaves aren’t falling as much as they usually do, given that it’s 90 degrees out, the pumpkin season has still begun.

You won’t have to worry about how hot it is when you have Dairy Queen’s new Pumpkin Pie Blizzard in your mouth. It has all the taste of a pumpkin pie and won’t burn your mouth like a pumpkin spice latte would.

The first DQ I went to in my home town said that they were all sold out. Uh, oh. What to do? I tried another and thankfully, the DQ off Sycamore Road has it. I looked at the beautiful display in front of me for two seconds before my mouth was watering and I had to taste it.

I took a spoonful, working around the mountain of whipped cream with a sprinkle of nutmeg in my way and took my first bite. Holy moly, that’s good! I didn’t even care that the woman behind the counter was laughing at my reaction. It was just me and this beautiful blizzard that tasted just like a cold pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. The little shortbread pieces made it seem like they threw in the crust with the pumpkin pie filling and spices to boot.

This treat deserves all the hype. Besides, who wouldn’t love pie and ice cream? If you have a chance to taste this delicious creation, tweet us pictures of your reactions @NIUNorthernStar
