Your editor will push you to meet deadlines and improve your writing skills. The Editor-in-Chief will encourage your creativity and individuality. Your fellow writers will brainstorm, help create and support you through your best ideas and your not so inspired suggestions.

Being a reporter affords you the opportunity to ask hard-hitting questions and challenge everything from politics to movie ratings. Writing for the Northern Star gives you a distinct voice and allows that voice to be heard.

It helps you build a pretty extensive portfolio:

Your name on dozens of bylines throughout the semester is pretty awesome. When interviewing for jobs that involve a writing component, the hiring manager will most likely ask for writing samples. Published stories from an accredited newspaper like the Northern Star are perfect additions to any portfolio.
