April 19, 2017
DeKALB — The women’s tennis team will head to Bowling Green, Ohio to face the Bowling Green State University Falcons in its final match of the regular season before the Mid-American Conference Championship.
The Huskies (9-12, 3-4 MAC) are coming off a win against the Western Michigan University Broncos this past week in their Senior Day match. Seniors Adey Osabuohien and Pauline Chawafambira were honored before the event. The Huskies clinched a 4-3 win over the Broncos, winning the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles points. Doubles partners in Osabuohien and freshman Raven Neely along with Chawafambira and junior Evelyn Youel will look to do the same this weekend. In addition to the doubles points, the Huskies were able to win three of the six singles points.
Bowling Green is coming off of two tough losses this past weekend, falling to the University of Buffalo Bulls 7-0 Friday and 6-1 to the University of Akron Zips Sunday. They were only able to clinch one doubles point and one singles point the whole weekend against the Zips. Bowling Green(5-13, 1-5 MAC) has been struggling all season with one conference game win against the University of Toledo Rockets March 26.
Both teams have something more to play for in this final conference contest as it will impact their standing heading into the postseason. Both teams have struggled at some point this season, but all of that will be put behind them when they step on the court to face off Friday afternoon.
The Huskies took the win the last time these teams met March 25, 2016, against the Falcons, winning 5-2. Bowling Green will host the Huskies in their match noon Friday in Bowling Green, Ohio.
