RED iPhones fight AIDS

RED iPhones fight AIDS

Apple released their newest products this year, the RED  7 and 7 plus. The iPhone joins a line of other RED products like the Beats pill, Beats solo headphones and other iPhone accessories. While the color red is popular among Apple users, the color also supports a good cause.

RED Charity

The red products were released in partner with the worldwide charity, RED, a charity that’s focused on putting an end to AIDS. They currently provide AIDS testing, treatment, prevention and counseling in Sub-Sahara Africa. Their slogan to live by is, “Buy (RED). Give Life.”

The charity sprouted in 2006 when Bono and Bobby Shriver wanted to accomplish one thing; An AIDS free world. While this may be easier said than done, this 11 year old company has already raised $465 million and save almost 100 million lives. However, they did not do it alone.

Partners

Almost 39 different companies, bands and social media outlets jumped in to help. Apple, being one of RED’s top donators, has given just over $100 million and continues to give each day. Other well know companies, like Coca-Cola, Mophie and Starbucks, have donated around $10 million each.

Bill and Melinda Gates have also helped RED charities by providing developing countries with medical attention and supplies, educational materials and sponsorship.

How to Help

While people can donate directly to the RED charities through their website, consumers can also show support by purchasing products that support their foundation.

Red has posted a list of products on their website that are partnered with the charity, along with links on where to purchase. Some of the products include the Apple watch, condom holder, Vespa scooter, clothing and various cookware.
