Annual program to recycle holiday lights
November 15, 2016
DeKALB – With holiday season underway residents test and replace the fuses on their holiday lights. When the light strings fail to work, people often end up throwing them out.
The DeKalb County Health Department and the DeKalb Iron and Metal Company will host their sixth annual holiday lights recycling program now through Feb. 15, 2017.
Residents of DeKalb can drop off their old, unwanted holiday lights at any of the drop-off locations during the Holiday Lights Program. All string lights and extension cords are accepted.
With this program, DeKalb County diverts holiday lights from piling up in the landfill. Instead, the lights are recycled.
The program saved around 3,000 pounds of holiday lights last year.
