Montgomery said all conferences are discussing changes to the rules, but the MAC took a stand and didn’t want to wait longer for changes to take place. Coaches only want the best for their athletes in every area of school.

“I like that the MAC has jumped out there first and made a change. I know where the student athletes are coming from because they want to lock it in and say ‘I can study at this time and take some time off at this time.’ Giving the athletes time off after a return from a road trip and to start a semester, I think that’s fair. Class is the primary goal and for them to be able to get their books, study and get off to a good start, I think that’s really important. We, as coaches, have the athletes’ best interests in mind.”
