September 12, 2016
This week’s alumni of the week is Barbara Andree:
Major: Psychology with a minor in sociology
Career: Office manager in the College of Education Deans Office
Q: What is your favorite memory at NIU?
A: Being in theater productions and lounging at the Lagoon.
Q: If you could go back and change anything during your college career, what would it be and why?
A: I would have changed my major to become an English/Theater high school teacher. That was my original intention, but [it] changed when I got interested in psychology. That could have been my minor.
Q: What advice would you give to current students?
A: Get involved in campus activities, support the larger community, follow your passion and create a better world.
Q: Which bar or restaurant was your favorite when you attended NIU?
A: The Uprising [which] became Otto’s.
Q: On a scale of one to 10, 10 being the most relevant, how would you rate the applicability of the classes you took at NIU to your career?
A: 10. The knowledge from a solid liberal arts education has been integrated into every career I’ve held since college.
Q: Does anyone from your family go to NIU?
A: No.
Q: How do you still show you are proud to be a Huskie?
A: I wear NIU gear every Friday, and I’m proud to talk about how great NIU is. I’m active in campus committees and organizations to make it even better.
