Intramural softball week three

DeKALB | In week three of the 2016 softball intramural league season, there were a couple key teams to keep track of.

One of the teams, Phi Kappa Psi (1-1), was coming off a heart crushing loss last week to Phi Sigma Kappa.

Phi Kappa Psi started the game off well, scoring seven quick runs in the first three innings against Phi Kappa Theta (1-1). Phi Kappa Theta’s offense and defense struggled all game to make a comeback.

In the top of the fifth inning, senior finance major Jeff Miller hit a two-run home run to push the lead to 9-0.

Throughout the rest of the game they kept the runs coming in, hitting the ball in between the gaps in the defense and finishing the game early with 14 total runs.

Phi Kappa Theta did get on the board with a homer by Derek Peterson, junior hospitality management major.

Phi Kappa Psi adds another win to their record to move to 2-1, and Phi Kappa Theta puts another loss in their record and are now 1-2.

The following game was a co-ed matchup between Delta Sigma Pi (1-1), who entered the week on a one-game winning streak and The Rec Squad.

The Rec Squad was also coming into this week with a win because last week the team they were supposed to play was forced to forfeit as they did not meet the minimum requirement of females, four, to compete.

Delta Sigma Pi came out of the gates rolling, and their offense kept scoring runs.

The Rec Squad was not able to keep up and they had to end the game in the bottom of the fourth with the score 16-6.

With the 10-point blowout rule, Delta Sigma Pi earns one more win for the books to push their record to 2-1.

The Rec Squad will be going into next week with a 1-2 record, not looking so good.

A team to watch out for next week is the undefeated Gatortang (3-0). They defeated the Milkmen (1-2) in a quick blowout also with the score 16-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
