Style Guide: Summer Fashion

By Jay Ibarra

Summer fashion is changing in big ways, as the festival girl is now taking favored looks from spring and last summer and updating them with embellishments and pattern changes.

Halter tops

This trend began to appear near the end of last summer, but it’s ready to hit 2016 hard. The halter top is a high-neck top, sometimes fitted, and it has been showing up everywhere — right in time for summer. The cut of this top will be a hot swim trend, as well.

Printed shorts

Lightweight printed shorts are going to be a trend this summer because they are so easy to throw on and they go with everything. I’ve even seen some shorts with fun embroidering and cute tassels on the side for fun embellishments, different than what we’ve seen last summer. This trend stems from the festival hopping craze from the past few years, but it has somehow found a way to stay fresh and on trend.

Cage leather sandals

These shoes are the newest trend to come up without trickling in from another season. Everyone is just starting to hear about these shoes. They are a backless sandal with a caged front hitting above the ankle. They are going to be perfect for parties in the summer. They can also be found in a heel or a flat.

Shift dresses

This a-line dress is a summer staple. The prints that will appear this summer will be the new trend. We’re going to see baroque, paisley and tie-dye patterns.

Off-the-shoulder crop tops

This trend, in a cropped fashion, will spill over from last summer to go with shorts and jeans. This top is inspired by the ‘80s, as well as western music festivals. In the summer, expect lighter linen materials, crochets, cut-out and western prints.
