Men’s golf senior Jordan Wetsch is preparing for his final stretch of postseason play, capping off an impressive collegiate golf career.

Wetsch began his collegiate career playing for the University of Wisconsin and Colorado State University before transferring to NIU.

Wetsch competed and started in 22 tournaments in his two-year stint with the Huskies, highlighted by a fifth place finish in last year’s Sagamore Fall Preview in Noblesville, Ind. He scored in the top 10 in the MAC Championship in the same year.

The Huskies are awaiting the three-day MAC Championship, which starts Thursday at the Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.

Q: Being one of the two seniors on this team, do you feel an added responsibility to be a leader on this team and to help the younger guys?

A: I’ve felt that ever since we lost Nick Huggins in the beginning of spring because he was a big vocal leader for our team. This year I’ve been taking it upon myself to be there supporting our guys and to be a role model. This program is really growing.

Q: Have you had a favorite moment or round during your time here?

A: There’s been quite a few — just recently in Phoenix when we finished fourth out of 20 teams. It was great to see all our guys come together and play well. I always enjoyed watching all the guys playing well at the same time. Also, some of the trips we’ve made to great courses like [Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, WA], [Erin Hills Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.], etc.

Q: Is there any round or particular shot that you would want to do over again?

A: Definitely last year at Sagamore in the final round. I had a chance to win it but ended up missing a few short putts in the closing holes.

Q: What will you miss most about golfing at NIU?

A: At the end of the year banquet we had recently, it made me realize that it will be really tough saying goodbye to these guys. I’ve come to know some great individuals, great teammates and great coaches.
