College of Law to host featured speaker on diversity
April 20, 2016
The College of Law will hold its first featured speaker presentation as part of its Embracing Diversity series at noon Thursday in Swen Parson Hall, room 188.
Professor Christine Rienstra-Kiracofe, the featured speaker, will discuss de jure and de facto segregation in education, according to the NIU website.
De jure is segregation enforced by law while de facto segregation occurs when widespread individual preferences, sometimes backed up with private pressure, lead to separation, according to Gale Group’s Historical Reference website.
All students and faculty are welcome to attend the free event where lunch will be served.
