Freshman basketball guard suspended indefinitely
April 7, 2016
Basketball freshman guard Laytwan Porter was suspended indefinitely by the team after he was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended/revoked license, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams on March 30.
The 6-foot-2, 185 pound freshman played in 34 games and started in one for the Huskies this season, averaging 4.9 points, 2.3 assists (first among MAC freshmen) and 2.3 rebounds on 37 percent shooting from the field. He averaged 1.1 assist per game, tying him for first among freshmen in the MAC. He also tallied 17.4 minutes per game, becoming just one of six Huskies to play in all 34 games of the season.
Porter became the first Huskie with a 10-assist game since 2010 when he picked up 10 assists in a Nov. 21 game against Eureka College. He finished the season shooting 75 percent from the free throw line and 30 percent from three.
His first career start came against the University of California-Santa Barbara in the Vegas 16 Tournament quarterfinals on March 28 — he recorded six points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 70-63 loss.
