Big Sean, Jhene Aiko release surprise emotional album

By Samantha Keck

Rapper Big Sean and singer Jhene Aiko released their first joint album Friday — an album that speaks to the emotions of this generation’s relationships.

“Twenty88” includes eight tracks predominantly led by Big Sean and Aiko with the exception of “2 Minute Warning,” which features R&B singers K-Ci & JoJo along with producer Detail. The tracks on the album went more in depth about emotions than today’s average song.

The fist track, “Déjà Vu,” has a cool, catchy beat that makes you want to listen to the lyrics. The lyrics are very personal to Big Sean. He talks about his ex-fiancee, Naya Rivera, and the details of their relationship while Aiko talks about the hardships she faced with her ex-husband. On the other hand, Aiko also talks about her relationship with Big Sean. They go through the same problems but keep going back to each other. I think it’s a song that most people can easily relate to, especially in regards to tough relationships.

“Memories Faded” is the seventh track on the album in which Big Sean sings about bad relationship memories. It’s a good song that can make you feel like things are OK even when they’re not the best.

The album was a lot better than I expected. I only listen to Big Sean’s top singles, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one. I think they gave audiences great soothing beats to listen to and make listeners think about the relationships a person could go through — good or bad. Big Sean and Aiko pulled a Drake move in bringing out heavy feelings out of listeners.
