Pass/Fail: Rosy’s becoming Rosati’s; TCF in Student Center closing

By Ben Thomas

Pass:

Many of NIUs’ students already know DeKalb could use more activities and leisure sites where students can unwind after class and on the weekends. Before I was of legal age, I would pass by the old Rosy’s Roadhouse and see a busy bar. However, the bar closed down before I could ever make it in. Now, with the news of Rosati’s Pizza pub filling in the location, I’m sure many students are excited for a new bar scene on campus. Students know will be able to travel to one location for the three best things; pizza, beer, and sports. Rosati’s Pizza is a nationwide chain of restaurants with more than 150 locations, according to Rosati’s website. Knowing this gives me hope to believe once Rosati’s Pizza opens, it will be here to stay for quite some time.

Fail:

Many students here on campus don’t have the luxury of owning their own car. This makes traveling long distances a great inconvenience. TCF Bank has been an on campus banking option for NIU students since I enrolled here in 2013. Students could easily access their bank account and money by simply walking down into the lower level of the Holmes Student Center. However, with the bank closing June 30 students will no longer be able to use their OneCard’s as a debit card. If a student chooses to stick with TCF Bank, the nearest location for the bank is in the Jewel Osco grocery store on Sycamore Road.
