Sanders, Trump win DeKalb County primaries

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) and businessman Donald Trump topped the polls in Tuesday’s primary election in DeKalb County.

The general primary election was held Tuesday in Illinois. Trump and Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State, won the statewide election.

Sanders received 66.43 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 33.04 percent in the Democratic race in DeKalb County. Trump received 37.14 percent of the vote to Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) 30.93 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Florida) 9.7 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s 19.26 percent in the Republican race in DeKalb County.

Democrat Tammy Duckworth and Republican Mark Kirk won their respective primaries for the U.S. Senate.
