Pass/Fail: NIU to offer empowering leadership event, College of Law provides acceptance opportunity without LSAT

By Hanna Markezich

Pass:

NIU is offering a Mentor Summit, according to an NIU announcement, that will help show students the power of mentoring and the benefits that come with it.

This event, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 2 at Barsema Hall, is a chance for students to learn how to mentor and the benefits of helping their peers. This summit will advise current and future mentors to improve their skills with mentees. Many students seek out mentors to help with their future careers but it may not cross their mind that they could be someone’s mentor; having someone to guide you is extremely helpful in any field. Mentoring will offer the student social skills, hands on work experience and communication with others. Students should take this opportunity to learn about mentoring and help their fellow colleagues succeed.

Fail:

The College of Law is offering senior students a chance to be accepted into the program without having to take the Law School Admission Test, known as the LSAT, according to NIU Today.

While it is great that certain students will avoid the hardship that is the LSAT, not all students are eligible. Students with a GPA lower than 3.5 are ineligible and will have to work even harder to be accepted into the law school.

The LSAT allows schools to compare their applicants. Students who will take the LSAT probably will not like the fact that others received a free pass. Students are tested on essential skills that will be needed for law school. Those who do not take the LSAT will be missing the major application skills that are needed for comprehending law.
