Suspects arrested for Elmwood Avenue robberies

Three suspects were arrested in connection to two reports of robberies on the 1500 block of Elmwood Avenue, according to a DeKalb Police news release.
DeKalb Police investigated robberies reported on Monday and Wednesday on the 1500 block of Elmwood Avenue, according to the news release. The victims in these cases, one of which was beaten and sustained non-life threatening injuries, reported their cellphones and money were stolen by suspects with the threat of a gun.
An investigation into the case led to the recovery of a shovel used as a weapon and a “look-alike” pellet gun, according to the news release.
Marc A. Santiago, 22, of West Chicago; Christian Zuniga, 23, of Bensenville and Brandon L. Villareal, 21, of Bensenville, were each charged Wednesday with three counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful restraint and three counts of mob action.
The robberies are believed to be gang motivated, according to the news release.
