Girl Scouts to begin cookie booth sales
February 19, 2016
Girl Scout cookie booth sales start at the end of February and Digital Cookie 2.0 will be available until the end of the cookie selling season.
The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois have rolled out an online cookie-selling program called Digital Cookie 2.0, as well as an app to find in-person cookie booths.
The website, which allows girls to make cookie sales, has been revamped with a mobile sales app, as well as an app available to the consumer called Girl Scout Cookie Finder to help customers find cookie booths.
“For a long time Girl Scouts only sold cookies from door to door with help from the adults in their lives, you know, parents’ coworkers, grandmas and grandpas, community clubs, libraries, those kind of things, where it was mostly direct sales with the public,” Soderstrom said.
Due to the recent increase in technology and online shopping, Girl Scouts decided to see if they could transition the cookie program into the online world, Soderstrom said.
Following the success of Digital Cookie 1.0, additions the girls had requested were added in Digital Cookie 2.0 including more interactive games and quizzes, goal-setting calculators, colorful sales charts and videos. New to Digital Cookie 2.0 is also a mobile sales app for girls to make sales on the go.
“We’re talking girls ages 6, 7, 8, and they’re in their second, third grade classroom saying they have their own website […] it’s a very exciting start to their online experience,” Soderstrom said.
Soderstrom said all money from cookie sales stay with the girls.
“The main difference between the Girl Scouts cookie program and other fundraisers is that Girl Scouts is one of the few organizations that allows girls to choose what they want to do with the money they’ve raised,” Soderstrom said.
Soderstrom said individuals who are still trying to follow their New Years weight loss resolutions can still support the Girl Scouts by purchasing cookies for troops oversees or local food pantries, so they don’t ever have to see or eat the cookies.
