Baker sets new NIU record
February 22, 2016
Senior guard Travon Baker became NIU’s all-time leader in games played after playing in Tuesday’s win over Bowling Green State University.
It was Baker’s 118th consecutive game played in an NIU uniform. He has started all 26 games this season. Baker also dished five assists to move into third on NIU’s all-time assists list, recording the 333rd assist of his career.
Baker has increased his production in each of his four seasons as a Huskie. Through 26 games, he has shot a career-high in three point percentage (38 percent), field goal percentage (38 percent) and free throw percentage (74 percent).
The guard has made his defensive presence known this season — he’s sixth in the MAC in steals, averaging 1.4 a game. He’s also fourth in assists in the conference, averaging four a game.
Head coach Mark Montgomery previously said that Baker has done a great job of making shots and plays throughout his career. Baker is a clutch player and when the team needs him to step up and make a play, he does. He has led the team in scoring six times this season and has scored a career-high 25 points twice on the year.
