Brandon A. Washington, 28, of Rochelle, died after becoming sick in his jail cell at the DeKalb County Jail today, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff news release.

Washington became sick in his jail cell at approximately 1:48 a.m. today, according to the news release. Deputies responded to an unresponsive Washington after hearing banging on cell bars by other inmates. CPR was performed by the deputies and at 2:04 a.m. Washington was transported by ambulance to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 1 Kish Hospital Drive. Washington was pronounced dead at 2:34 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates an ingestion of homemade alcohol and drugs may have been involved, according to the news release.

There is an ongoing investigation into the death of Washington, according to the news release. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
